Heritage Tour Guide

Location: McAdam Railway Station, 96 Saunders Road, McAdam, N.B., E6J 1L2

Job Description:

Educate, engage, and create a memorable experience for visitors of the McAdam Railway Station this summer by providing meaningful and captivating guided heritage tours. As a Heritage Tour Guide you will engage visitors by sharing the museum’s stories through activities, demonstrations, and guided tours. You will be responsible to assist with the delivery of the tours as well as providing additional information to visitors about the museum, its collections, programs and events, and visitor information centre.

Ideal candidates must have outstanding customer service capabilities, possess a positive attitude, be self-motivated and well accustomed to teamwork, be charismatic and have a good sense of humour. 

The successful applicant will:

  • Conduct daily tours for groups of all ages and ensure each visitor leaves with a greater understanding and appreciation for McAdam’s rich railroad and local history.

  • Help, support, and contribute to daily museum operations and summer fundraising events.

  • Complete sales-related tasks and retail operations associated with the McAdam Railway Station giftshop and ticket sales.

Qualifications:

To be well suited to the role you will possess the following qualifications and competencies:

  • Able to learn historical information and interpret it to large numbers of people from a wide range of ages and backgrounds including youth, seniors, and international visitors

  • Possess excellent presentation and communication skills

  • Basic computer and internet navigation skills  

Other Qualifications as required by government funding include:

  • Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada

  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada

  • Be between ages 15-30

  • Be willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment

 

Job Type and Contract Length: Full-time, seasonal (10 weeks)

Salary: $13.00-$14.00 per hour

Schedule: 7 hr shifts over a 7-day period (35 hrs/week)

Tour Guide/Events Assistant

Location: McAdam Railway Station, 96 Saunders Road, McAdam, N.B., E6J 1L2

 

Job Description:

The McAdam Railway Station, a National and Provincial Historic Site, is looking for enthusiastic individuals with demonstrated leadership skills to contribute to the success of the daily activities during our operational season from early June to mid-December. You will be responsible for the daily management of our summer tour guide personnel and ensuring visitors to the McAdam Railway Station receive outstanding levels of service. You will also engage visitors and deliver heritage tours during summer months as warranted, and act as a lead tour guide in the fall. You will also assist the catering committee with special events held at the McAdam Railway Station.  

The successful applicant will:

  • Assist summer tour guide staff to facilitate proper operation of our heritage tour program.    

  • Oversee the daily operation of the admissions area and giftshop, including opening and closing the Museum.

  • Assist with team leadership, support, personal and professional development.

  • Welcome visitors, provide historical interpretation of the museum and its collections, assist with training student hires; provide tours as required.   

  • Assist catering committee during fundraising events.

  • Assist the Operations Manager with administrative tasks, where warranted.  

 

Qualifications:

  • Possess excellent presentation and communication skills.

  • Have a positive attitude and be able to accept challenges in the workplace.

  • Learn and interpret historical information to present to the public; train other staff and volunteers to deliver heritage tours.

  • Basic computer and internet navigation skills.   

 

Job Type and Contract Length: Part-time, seasonal (June to December)

Salary: $15.00 per hour

Schedule: 21-28 hrs/week scheduled over a 7-day period weekly
